Starting 8th January — join us for Dry January and beyond.
Our next 12-week group programme begins on 8th January. Limited places available.
Managing alcohol or drug use alone is genuinely hard – not because of a lack of willpower, but because addiction reshapes how the brain works. This 12-week in-person group programme offers a different kind of support: structured, evidence-based, and grounded in the power of shared experience with others who understand what you're going through.
Run by two experienced addiction counsellors, Oswin Brenner and Ali Miranda, across two Surrey locations — Weybridge and East Molesey — the course combines psychodynamic and integrative approaches to help you understand your patterns, build practical coping skills, and take lasting steps forward.

Is this course right for you?
This programme is designed for adults in Surrey who feel their alcohol or drug use has become difficult to manage and are ready to explore change in a structured, supportive group environment.
This course may be right for you if:
Your alcohol or drug use feels difficult to control, reduce, or stop
You've tried to change before but found it hard to sustain on your own
You want professional support that fits around your work, family, or daily life
You're looking for connection with others who genuinely understand what you're going through
You want to understand the patterns behind your use, not just manage the symptoms
You're ready to take a structured step forward, even if you're not sure exactly where to start
What this course is not for:
This programme is not suitable if you currently require medical supervision for withdrawal, or if you are in acute crisis. If you are unsure whether the course is right for your situation, Oswin and Ali are happy to have a confidential conversation before you commit.
How does the 12-week programme work?
The programme runs as a closed group of up to 12 people, meeting in person once a week for 90 minutes, facilitated by two qualified addiction counsellors at one of The Practice's two Surrey locations: Weybridge and East Molesey.

An introduction to the group, creating a safe, supportive and confidential space where participants can begin to get to know one another.

Week 3: Triggers and Cravings Motivation & Values
Identifying personal triggers and learning practical ways to manage cravings.

Week 5: Coping Skills II

Recognising unhelpful thinking patterns and exploring healthier ways of responding to them.
Week 7: Behaviour Change / Relapse Prevention

Week 9: Shame, Guilt & Self Compassion
Understanding the impact of shame and guilt while developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
Week 10: Relapse Prevention / Lifestyle Balance and Routine
Creating a personalised relapse prevention plan to support long-term recovery.
Week 11: Identity & Meaning in Recovery
Exploring identity beyond addiction and identifying values, purpose and future goals.
Week 12: Ending & Continuity
Reflecting on progress, celebrating achievements and planning the next steps in recovery.
Why group therapy works
Group therapy is highly effective in addiction treatment because it provides peer support and helps normalise the challenges of recovery. Hearing others share similar experiences reduces feelings of isolation and shame, while creating a sense of connection, understanding, and hope.
In a closed group, members develop trust and accountability over time. The consistent environment encourages individuals to support one another, take responsibility for their recovery, and remain committed to positive change.
