Child-Centred Play Therapist

MA Play Therapy, BSc Psychology, BAPT (Accred)

From £80.00 (50 minute session)

Kate is a Child-Centred play therapist dedicated to supporting children and young people with their emotional wellbeing. She holds a master’s degree in Play Therapy with Distinction and an undergraduate degree in Psychology. Kate is a member of the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) and works in accordance with their professional and ethical standards.

How Play Therapy Supports Children

Play therapy provides children with a safe and supportive space to express their thoughts and feelings through play, creativity and imagination. Children do not always have the words to explain difficult experiences or emotions, and play offers them a natural and comfortable way to communicate. Through the therapeutic relationship, Kate creates a calm, accepting and non-judgemental environment where children feel understood, safe and valued.

Areas of Support

Kate has significant experience working with children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. She currently works as a play therapist across specialist school and charity settings, alongside her private practice. Through this work she collaborates closely with parents, caregivers and other professionals to ensure children feel supported both within the therapy space and in their everyday environments.

Kate has extensive experience supporting children with a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and worries
  • Low mood or depression
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Family changes such as separation or divorce
  • Low self-esteem or confidence
  • Behavioural difficulties
  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts
  • Emotion-based school avoidance

Neurodiversity and Inclusive Practice

Kate also has specialist experience working with neurodiverse children, including autistic children and those with sensory processing differences. She works flexibly to meet each child’s individual communication style, including supporting children who are non-speaking or who use alternative communication methods such as Makaton or communication books. Kate adapts the therapeutic environment to help children feel safe, regulated and able to engage in the play therapy process.

Working with Parents & Caregivers

In addition to direct therapeutic work, Kate values working collaboratively with the wider network around a child. When appropriate, she offers guidance and feedback to parents and caregivers to help them better understand their child’s emotional world and support their development outside of sessions.

Kate’s approach is child-centred and non-directive, meaning that the child leads the process and is able to explore their experiences at their own pace. Through a trusting and consistent therapeutic relationship, children can begin to process difficult feelings, build resilience and develop greater confidence in themselves and their relationships.

Session Fees & Assessments

Sessions are offered at £80 per session, with an initial assessment meeting priced at £100. The assessment meeting provides an opportunity to explore a child’s needs, discuss concerns, and consider whether play therapy would be a helpful next step.
